Memorials & Celebrations of Life

Music for remembrance.

A single flute, held by someone who has spent years inside grief, breath, and the kind of silence that asks to be honored.

← All performances

Before I made music my work, I spent six years as a licensed funeral director and mortician in the United States. I sat with families in the worst hours of their lives, and I learned what music can and can't do in a room of grief. This page is for families and funeral directors looking for music that honors the moment without performing on top of it.

Why the flute fits here

The Native American flute is one of the few instruments that does not ask anything of the listener. It does not require attention; it allows it. It can sustain a single long tone beneath a eulogy without competing with the words. It can play a familiar melody at the end of a service that gives everyone a place to rest their grief without forcing tears or asking for them. It is not religious to any one tradition, but it is reverent to all of them.

Song selection

Families typically choose between a traditional Native American flute song, an interpretation of a piece that mattered to the person being honored, or a piece chosen to match the tone of the service. If there was a song they loved that suits the flute, I'll learn it. If you'd rather I choose, I will — and I'll tell you what I'm going to play before the service, so nothing is a surprise.

Frequently asked

We're working with a funeral director — can you coordinate directly with them?
Yes, and often this is easier. Mention your funeral home and the director's name when you reach out, and I'll handle the rest. As a former funeral director myself, I know how the service runs and what cues to listen for.
Is the flute appropriate for a religious service?
Yes. The Native American flute is not tied to any one tradition, and I've played within Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, secular, and non-denominational services. The music sits respectfully alongside whatever liturgy or readings shape the service.
Can you play graveside or at a scattering?
Yes. Outdoor settings — graveside, ash scattering, garden services — are some of the most meaningful places for this instrument. The flute carries naturally in open air.
How quickly can you respond? Some services are booked on short notice.
I know. Reach out by phone or text and I'll respond as quickly as I can — within hours where possible. For services within the week, please call or text rather than email.
Will you play a specific song that mattered to them?
Where it suits the instrument, yes, and I'll tell you honestly if a particular song won't translate. Many pieces work beautifully on the flute that you might not expect.
